Trauma-Informed Care
trauma - from the Greek word τραῦμᾰ, or traûma, meaning “wound”
Trauma can take many forms and importantly, the same traumatogenic occurrence or occurrences can be experienced very differently from individual to individual. Commonly, however, trauma can be identified by its nature to overwhelm one’s ability to integrate one’s emotional experience. Trauma has impacts, and is impacted by, multiple dimensions including the physiological, psychological, and social. My approach to working with trauma is informed by the recognition of the widespread and pervasive nature of trauma, and the importance in turn of carefully attending to body, mind, and spirit in healing and recovery.
